I’m very happy with my purchase of this handy little reference guide. I keep it in my gear case along with my D850 and it serves as a reminder of all the options to consider when leaving for a photo shoot. Great book at a great price.

I am a big fan of Rocky Nook. I check out their booth at Imaging USA and any other conference they might be present in. They are a great company.
I purchased the Nikon 850 Pocket Guide because the camera has so many functions, it is challenging to memorize them all. I already have Rocky Nook’s full
book on the topic which is exhaustive in its coverage but difficult to carry on trips. So, when I saw their display at Imaging USA this year of the various camera
model they offer it was a no brainer to get the Nikon 850 version. Imaging is in January and the 850 version was not yet in print at that time. Happily the folks
at the Rocky Nook booth said it would be available in mid April. I ordered it and it is in my camera bag for reference. It covers all you need, in terms of function,
in a concise and straight forward way. I cannot stress how glad I am that Rocky Nook published this pocket guide.
By the way, I own a number of their offerings, they are that good!

    • Thanks for the kind words Greg, we are so glad you are enjoying the pocket guide!

  4. A wonderful little book. I have both the Busch and the Young books and they are both must-read books on the D850, however, they are not well suited in the field. The pocket guide is ideally sized and bound to take with you in the field without fear of damage or having a weighty tome weighing you down. It has everything you need at a glance to help you on your way.

While I have Thom Hogan’s excellent book on the Nikon D850, his thousand plus page ebook is too much to search efficiently to find a quick answer to where a certain feature can be found in the field. Like the 40-page pocket guide for the Fujifilm X-T3, this 38-page pocket guide organizes camera features using images to help you locate buttons and a tabbed table of contents to allow you to quickly find how, for example, set up your camera for time lapse movies. The guide with its rugged cardboard pages is the right size to fit in your camera bag. You also receive a pdf version of the pocket guide to peruse at your leisure.

While my “go-to” reference is Rocky Nook’s “Mastering the Nikon D850” it’s a bit bulky to carry around to various shoots. What I needed was a compact and concise collection of how to set up the camera in certain circumstances and do it quickly. The pocket guide can quickly refresh me on how to do an operation or setup that I don’t use every day (i.e. time-lapse, focus stack, etc). The organized tabs and simple steps within them enable me to quickly set up the camera and get on with the business at the lens. The guide is printed on rugged stock that will endure many trips in and out of my shoot bag or equipment vest in the years to come.

I love this book. It is small, therefore very handy, and a flip through, which makes it easier to locate information. It breaks the camera down so one can find and identify areas of the camera thus getting familiar with the camera quickly. It is a handy companion to the book, Mastering the Nikon D850.
