Marketing Coordinator

Right after launching a marketing campaign, do you hit the refresh button on your browser every 10 minutes to check the results? Do you love books? Photography? Drawing? Painting? Being part of a small but mighty team? If so, we would love to speak with you about an opportunity to join the Rocky Nook team to help us take our marketing efforts to the next level.

We are an independent book publisher based in San Rafael, CA (just north of San Francisco). We publish world-class books that help readers master the art, craft, and techniques of creative pursuits and hobbies such as photography, drawing, painting, design, and illustration. Rocky Nook is a close-knit team who believes in doing great work together while maintaining a strong work-life balance.

Being a small company, we know the value that each person can and must bring to the table. Overall, we are looking for someone proactive and fun to work with who also takes their job seriously. Someone who would be happy and comfortable talking with a high-profile National Geographic photographer about their book one minute, and rolling up their sleeves to help pack up a tradeshow booth the next minute. We are looking for a self-starter who can brainstorm solutions while sharing the latest TikTok trends with their coworkers.

In short, we’re more interested in finding the right fit for our team than in finding someone who can check off every box below. That said, here are some of the main responsibilities the ideal candidate will have:

MARKETING STRATEGY

• •Work with the Publisher to create and execute the marketing strategy for each title and our brand.

DIRECT MARKETING

• Create and execute online direct marketing programs including email campaigns, weekly deals, and affiliate partnerships;
  Oversee, update, and maintain our Word Press website
• Create compelling campaign graphics to be used in direct campaigns, social media, and in PPC advertising

SOCIAL MEDIA & PR

• Manage Rocky Nook’s social media presence on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
• Drive publicity for Rocky Nook and our books through traditional PR, social media, our evangelist program, and media relationships

Customer Relations

• Coordinate 3–5 tradeshows annually
• Respond to customer service questions from our website
• Enter, Track and Communcate with sales teams on direct retail orders
• Become an expert on our customers and market.
• Be the public face of Rocky Nook for our customers
• Respond to customer service questions from our website
• Coordinate and host author webinars
• Coordinate market and customer research

GENERAL MARKETING

• Copy writing: Create copy for web, sales enablement, and social media channels
• Coordinate co-marketing opportunities (giveaways, excerpts, contests, campaigns, etc.) with industry partners and authors
• Provide our global distributors and sales teams with marketing materials
• Interact with people at all levels of an organization, fostering strong cross-functional teamwork and results

And here are the basic skills the ideal candidate will possess:

• Basic proficiency with visual design software, such as Photoshop
• Proficiency in Office for Mac (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Basic experience with HTML and CSS a plus
• Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to organize and manage many different responsibilities
• At least 2 years of experience working with Word Press websites
• At least 2 years of digital media marketing experience

We’re fortunate to work with some of the best authors, artists, and teachers in the world. We have published over 200 books, and we now publish around 35–45 books every year.
