1 review for Photography 101: Pocket Guide

  1. Spiral bound and made of heavy card stock, the Rocky Nook Photography 101 Pocket Guide is both a study guide for learning photography and a go-to reference in the field.

Divided into 7 tabbed sections (Pre-Shoot Checklist, Exposure Basics, Setting Up Your Camera, Lenses and Focal Length, Advanced Shooting Techniques, Composition Tips and Typical Shooting Scenarios), each provides a summary of camera features, techniques and how-tos that are applicable to most interchangeable lens digital cameras today- not an easy task when proprietary terminology can make it challenging to be generic and inclusive.

As a study guide or refresher, the succinct overviews of exposure, camera settings and composition are suburb. The guide is rich in illustrations and examples, most notably the composition section would be a tremendous help to the new photographer while on-scene and seeking unique and varied ways of capturing subjects.

The Typical Shooting Scenarios is ultimately a printed preset, allowing the photographer to quickly look up the most important settings and considerations for scenarios including portraits, group portraits, freezing action and more.

The Pre-Shoot Checklist is a fantastic tool (especially for those who share a camera body with another photographer) to review settings and preparations before going into the field- how many times have we taken that first shot only to realize that parameters from the last shoot are still set and entirely inappropriate?

Measuring only ~3.5×5.5”, this pocket guide is an ideal reference to be carried in the camera case or simply read as a quick review. A beautiful, handy, pragmatic resource and highly recommended.
