The book you’re reading about right now was created with Adobe InDesign CC. And that’s the case no matter which reading format you prefer—whether it’s the physical book made of plant fiber and ink, or the digital version made of electrons in an e-reader. In fact, most of the books, magazines, posters, and brochures you see were likely made with InDesign as well. It’s all around you.
Adobe InDesign CC: A Complete Course and Compendium of Features is your guide to building publications great or small in this ubiquitous page layout application. First, with a complete Course that includes a set of projects and lessons derived from the curriculum of award-winning and Adobe Certified Instructor Steve Laskevitch, you will learn the procedures needed to use InDesign professionally. Dozens of lessons are included that can be applied to any document you have in mind: engineering proposals, marketing collateral, spec sheets, magazines, newsletters, books, and more. Through these step-by-step lessons, you’ll be exposed to all of InDesign’s features in practical contexts and its best practices for publishing workflows.
To complete the Course, we’ll supply lesson documents and their assets to download. These can even serve as starting points for your own projects.
Then, for greater depth of knowledge and subsequent reference, you’ll use the Compendium to uncover more of the “how” and “why” of InDesign and publishing tech in general. With each topic easy to access, you can find and explore all of InDesign’s key features and concepts in depth. With cross references between the Course and Compendium, the two parts of the book complement each other perfectly. Best of all, when the lessons in the Course are done, the Compendium will continue to serve for months and years to come.

This book is certainly great. If you are to buy just one book of InDesgin CC, buy this one!
Mr. Laskevitch is a profesional trainer on InDesign and this shows in this book. He carefully guides you from the most simple task to the most complex one, meanwhile explaining the advantage of structuring documents, text and table styles and principles of design. Also, it is a book that will need to be read with InDesign to follow the examples; an eBook (whether PDF or ePub) is a must here.
Coming from PageMaker, I never used InDesign a lot (albeit it was very cheap at first) because FrameMaker covered my needs of long structured documents. Adobe axed FrameMaker for Mac and having to use it under Windows emulation was not an efficient way. I always though that InDesign could not substitute FrameMaker in the Mac OS. Until I read this book.

This book in itself is a beautiful work of book design. I was so pleasantly surprised with the layout and content when I received the book yesterday. Lessons start nice and easy but also cross reference to the in depth compendium. As I am familiar with the Photoshop and some other Adobe interfaces – this book is presented in a way that can accomodate some existing knowledge and surge forward with the learning that I need. Congratulations to the author and the Rocky Nook team – its definitely the best book I have seen on learning and a reference on InDesign.

I have learned a lot using this book and have done so *really* quickly. I had tried using a competitor’s book for several weeks before I found Steve’s book. With the other book, my enthusiasm kept me going but it was slow progress thanks to confusingly described steps and lack of frequent interesting mini-projects.
Then I found this book. It is so clearly worded with helpful pictures to make sure you are doing the right things. I found Steve’s book was aimed at the right level for someone like myself; I am very familiar with creating presentations and course documents using other tools. I wanted a book that got “stuck in” to something complete and useful right away. After the first chapter, I felt confident enough to start authoring material immediately and enthused enough to push buttons and turn dials on my own with confidence.
Steve has a lovely gentle cheeky sense-of-humour. As I am a technical IT lecturer, his comments suit my gambit of feelings I experience when I teach a class. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book especially to anyone who has experience with word processing and presentation software in general and wants to make inroads into InDesign quickly effectively. I hope Steve intends writing other books in a similar vein.

The best book out there about InDesign. Its well written easy to understand with lots of examples and follow along assignments to better help you to understand the workings of InDesign. Well laid out and nice layout. I’ve used InDesign from the beginning but this book helped me understand features I was unfamiliar with. Highly recommend this book.
